Unlike any ordinary calendars, Hindu calendar adopted in India has 6 seasons in a year! This doesn't mean that they have a longer year than ours, just a better use of the 365 days.

Since Vedic times (long long time ago, like 1500 BC), the various seasons in the Indian subcontinent was classified into these six categories. While North India mostly conforms to this marked change of seasons, it is less so in South India which is mostly marked by long summers and light winters. The six Indian seasons classified in the Hindu scriptures are:
1. Spring (mid February - mid April) It’s the time when it is not too cold and not too hot in most parts of India.
2. Summer (mid April - mid June) It’s when the weather is at its hottest in most parts of India.
3. Monsoon (mid June - mid August) It is the time when it rains in most parts of India.
4. Autumn (mid August - mid October) It is when the hot weather recedes gradually in most parts of India.
5. Pre-winter (mid August - mid December) It is the time before winter when it is perhaps the most pleasant time of the year across India in terms of the weather.
6. Winter (mid December - mid February) It is the coldest time of the year in most parts of India.
