BACKGROUND AND ORIGIN
NEBO is a group of passionate and experienced university students and graduates from different
universities. The reason we come together is simple: we all bear faith and we are all looking for
opportunities to engage in projects and activities that allow us to make use of our talent while doing
good to the community.
Most of the overseas service projects we currently see in campus targets either in primary school
students by providing short term education (the so-called “teach-for-free”), while the rest are
basically building projects in certain villages.
We, think that’s not enough.
We, aim for more.
We, want to change deeper, fundamental elements of life.
“What everyone wants from life is continuous and genuine happiness,” according to Spinoza, a
philosopher. When happiness is such a rudimentary element, why are there people not even have
the chance to own it?
Much earlier in 2013, some of us had already identified the importance of happiness in human
beings. Indeed, according to the first world happiness report released by the United Nations in
2013, happiness have been directly associated with physiological processes underlying health and
disease (P. 59 World Happiness Report 2013). In order to address this issue, a student project
“Activate” was created under the umbrella of Enactus HKU, aiming to create a harmonious
atmosphere and spread happiness among people.
“Activate” was awarded the second place in Enactus HK competition and was nominated to
participate in the Enactus regional China competition last year. It has already operated for more
than 1 year now, and is going to continue its operation until the last breath of the founders.
Inspired by the success of “Activate” in promoting happiness in Hong Kong, NEBO is determined to
spread the happiness like virus to other countries.
